How many recurring public-vote contests run in Florida?
Florida has 262 distinct recurring public-vote programs in our tracking, counted once per organizer across 489 curated recurring listings in a contest database snapshot dated 2026-10-02. The programs were seen between 2018 and 2026. Business polls account for 280 of the 489 listings and sports polls for 183, and the remaining 26 split into 18 pet-and-baby rounds, 5 pet-only rounds and 3 pageants.
Two numbers, two meanings. The 489 counts listings; the 262 counts the publishers and venues behind them. Divide one by the other and the average Florida organizer runs close to two recurring listings (489 over 262 is about 1.87). For a business owner the reading is short: these are recurring formats, and I'd treat last year's rules from a publisher as the first draft of next year's.
None of the named programs covers the whole state. Each belongs to one city or region: Tallahassee Magazine's Best of Tallahassee, SRQ Magazine's Best Of for Sarasota and Bradenton, Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay and Orlando Weekly's Best of Orlando. Their rulebooks differ in ways that cost picks, so a habit learned in one poll can waste a supporter's effort in the next.
Which Florida Best Of programs have the longest track record?
Tallahassee Magazine's Best of Tallahassee started in 1999, and its winners have come from reader write-ins ever since, with no staff nominations. The magazine prints the form in its May/June issue for readers to fill in and mail back by a deadline, and its 2026 online version ties each pick to one confirmed email address.
The Tallahassee rules are strict about place and completeness. A form counts only when at least 10 categories are marked. Picks must go to locally owned businesses within 30 miles of the city limits, and anything further out is simply not counted; the weekend getaway category is the one exception to the local requirement. The magazine describes its email rule as keeping to the spirit of one person, one pick.
SRQ Magazine's Best Of, covering Sarasota and Bradenton, works on a daily rhythm. A reader may pick once per category per day for the whole voting period, a form needs at least 15 categories before it is eligible for checking, and each person keeps a single form or account. The magazine says it collects voter details to keep duplicate and fraudulent entries out of the count.
Orlando Weekly splits its Best of Orlando in two. In the Readers Poll, the paper says, its staff only tally what readers send; the editors have their say separately, in Writers Picks. Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay ran its 2026 round to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30, with one pick a day across its categories.
When do Florida contests usually open and close?
According to our contest database snapshot of 2026-10-02, March is the most common opening month for Florida's recurring public-vote programs: 63 of 446 programs with a recorded opening month start then, about 14%, followed by September with 50 and June with 47. March is also the most common closing month, again 63 of 446, ahead of November with 44 and June with 43.
Matching counts at both ends do not prove that the same programs open and close in March. They do fit the window length below, though. A Florida poll that opens in early March and runs four weeks also closes in March, and a business that waits for a spring reminder may find the form already shut. September as the second opening month and November as the second closing month point to a fall cycle as well.
The named Florida dates show how wide the spread is. The AdventHealth For Women Cutest Baby Contest, published by Central Florida Lifestyle, took picks from 9 a.m. on January 30, 2025 to 5 p.m. on February 26, 2025. Best of the Bay closed its 2026 round on August 30. Tallahassee Magazine's printed form appears in the May/June issue.
A statewide calendar does not exist for best of Florida 2026 rounds. What works is a short list of the publishers that matter to your business, each with last year's opening month written next to it, and a look at their pages a few weeks before that month comes round.
How long do Florida voting promotions stay open?
The median Florida voting or nomination promotion lasts 28 days in our tracking, measured on 100 platform records that carry both a start date and an end date, for promotions starting between 2016 and 2026. Only records between 0 and 400 days long count toward that median, so a handful of year-round listings do not stretch it.
The Cutest Baby Contest sits right next to that figure. From January 30 at 9 a.m. to February 26 at 5 p.m. is 27 days and 8 hours.
Four weeks is short. In a 28-day poll with one pick a day, a supporter who hears about it on day one has 28 chances, and one who hears in the last week has 7. The whole effort is front-loaded whether you plan it that way or not.
I'd spend the opening days on the people who already know the business (staff, regulars, family) and only then add anything from outside. A slow first week in a four-week window is a quarter of the chances gone, and no reminder sent later brings those days back.
Which platforms count the picks in Florida contests?
In our tracking, poll.fm hosts 257 of the 489 recurring Florida listings, organizers' own websites 148, GoGo Photo Contest 27, Community Votes 20 and Gannett contest pages 15. The tool sets the mechanics of a click; the organizer's published rules decide which clicks count, and the two are worth reading side by side.
Poll.fm alone carries more than half of the listings. Organizer-run sites come second, and that is where the long forms sit: Tallahassee Magazine and SRQ Magazine both run their own, with category minimums and a confirmation step built in. A Florida photo contest such as the Cutest Baby Contest counts per photo instead.
Four counting units turn up across the Florida programs named above, and none of them carries over to the others:
- Per category, per day: SRQ Magazine's Best Of allows one pick in each category each day of the voting period.
- Per day, across categories: Creative Loafing's 2026 Best of the Bay allowed one round of picks a day.
- Per photo, per hour: the Cutest Baby Contest capped supporters at one pick per photo and three per hour.
- Per confirmed email: Tallahassee Magazine's 2026 online form ties each pick to one confirmed address.
How do you win a local contest in Florida?
Winning a Florida reader poll starts with its counting rule: Tallahassee Magazine ignores a form with fewer than 10 categories marked, SRQ Magazine wants at least 15, and Orlando Weekly warns that a single nomination will not carry a favorite into its second round. Support that skips those details never reaches the count.
I'd start with the category floor. A regular customer who wants to choose your bakery in Tallahassee also has to fill in at least nine other categories, and in Sarasota or Bradenton at least fourteen. Tell people before they open the form. A one-line note, 'pick a few other local favorites too, the magazine needs that', keeps more picks alive than any reminder sent afterward.
Write-in rounds reward a name people already carry in their heads. Tallahassee Magazine takes no nominations at all, so the business has to be familiar before the form is in the reader's hands, and Orlando Weekly tells readers outright to spread the word because one nomination is not enough. I'd settle on one exact spelling of the business name and use it on every sign, post and receipt, so write-ins do not scatter.
Example scenario (illustrative - not a client result): a family restaurant in Sarasota hears about the poll late. Its regulars will choose it gladly, but few know about the category floor or the daily reset, so the first message explains both and asks for one form a day rather than a burst on the first evening. The rest of the window runs on short reminders timed to the reset.
Voting Now runs paid promotion for Florida poll entries: ads, native PR, partner groups and bloggers, and our own social accounts, aimed at local people who might choose the entry. We do not sell contest votes and cannot promise a title. For Best of Tallahassee the business itself must sit within 30 miles of the city limits, so the address is checked before any promotion for the poll starts.
What do Florida contest rules say about rewards and promotion?
Tallahassee Magazine's 2026 rules for Best of Tallahassee forbid incentives, prizes, goods or services offered for picks, so a free coffee for each completed form breaks the terms. SRQ Magazine collects voter details to stop duplicate or fraudulent entries and holds each person to one form or account for the whole period.
Orlando Weekly answers the advertising worry head on. The paper says its sales department sits apart from editorial and has no say in who wins Best of Orlando. An ad bought in the paper, by that account, does not move its Readers Poll, and the editors' own choices go into Writers Picks instead.
None of the Florida rules named above says, one way or the other, whether a business may pay for ordinary advertising that invites people to take part in the poll. That gap is a question for the organizer, asked in writing before anything runs. Keep the reply.
Repeat picks are a separate matter. The Cutest Baby Contest let supporters come back, but only within one pick per photo and three an hour, and SRQ's limit is one per category per day. Anything beyond the stated allowance, from extra accounts to scripted clicks, is exactly what SRQ's duplicate checks are there to catch.

Step by step
-
Confirm the business qualifies
Check the locality line first: Best of Tallahassee counts picks only for locally owned businesses within 30 miles of the city limits, with weekend getaway as the one category outside that rule.
-
Note the category floor
Write down how many categories a form needs before it counts, 10 for Tallahassee Magazine and 15 for SRQ Magazine, and put that number in the first message supporters see.
-
Match the reset unit
Find whether picks reset per day, per category or per hour, then time reminders to that reset; the Cutest Baby Contest allowed three an hour, SRQ one per category each day.
-
Plan around four weeks
Assume a window near the 28-day Florida median until the publisher prints exact dates, and bring in regulars, staff and family during the opening days, when every daily pick still has the most days left to repeat.
-
Strip rewards from every ask
Remove discounts, freebies and raffles from any message that asks for a pick; Tallahassee Magazine forbids incentives offered in exchange for votes, and a single reward post breaks its terms.
Questions and answers
What wins local business awards in Florida's reader polls?
Local business awards in Florida's reader polls are won with complete, countable forms from real customers. Tallahassee Magazine does not count a form with fewer than 10 categories marked, and SRQ Magazine wants 15 before a form is even eligible for checking. Ask customers once, explain the category floor in that first ask, and remind them on the poll's own reset, whether that is daily or a single pick.
How do you get Best of Omaha or win Best of Boston outside Florida?
The local publisher's rules decide how you get Best of Omaha or win Best of Boston, exactly as they do in Florida. Some Best Of titles are split between readers and editors: Orlando Weekly tallies a Readers Poll and lets its editors choose Writers Picks separately. Before chasing any city's title, find out which half is open to readers, how often a pick resets and how many categories a form needs.
How do you get nominated for Best of Las Vegas or a Florida title?
Nomination depends on the publisher, and some Florida titles skip it entirely. Tallahassee Magazine makes no nominations: Best of Tallahassee winners come straight from reader write-ins. Orlando Weekly runs a write-in nomination round first and warns that one nomination will not carry a favorite to round two. For Best of Las Vegas or any other city, look for the publisher's write-in dates and plan support around that round.
Is there a baby contest in Florida with a public vote?
Yes. The AdventHealth For Women Cutest Baby Contest, published by Central Florida Lifestyle, ran online voting from 9 a.m. on January 30, 2025 to 5 p.m. on February 26, 2025. Pet-and-baby rounds are a small share of the state's recurring public polls: 18 of 489 listings in our tracking, with 5 more for pets alone.
When do Best of Florida 2026 polls open?
Best of Florida 2026 polls open on each publisher's own date, and March is the most common opening month in our tracking, at 63 of 446 programs. September (50) and June (47) come next. Of the named 2026 rounds, Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay closed at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, and Tallahassee Magazine ran its 2026 form online with one confirmed email per pick.
Can a Florida photo contest cap how often you vote?
Yes. A Florida photo contest sets its own cap, and the Cutest Baby Contest allowed one pick per photo and no more than three per hour. GoGo Photo Contest carries 27 recurring Florida listings in our tracking, and each organizer there writes its own limit. Read the cap before sharing the link, because a supporter who clicks past it spends effort the count will never show.

Voting Now does not sell picks in Best of Tallahassee, SRQ Magazine's Best Of, Best of the Bay or any other Florida reader poll, and never uses bots, proxies, scripts or duplicate email addresses. We cannot move Tallahassee Magazine's 10-category floor or its 30-mile line, cannot overrule a publisher that sets a form aside, and do not promise any Florida title. No reward is offered for a pick on our side. Political or governmental votes are outside our work entirely.
A contest vote sits under two rulebooks, the platform's and the organizer's. Meta's Spam standard lists offering anything of monetary value in exchange for engagement as a covered behavior, and the Santa Barbara Independent says it will disqualify a business that offers voters incentives of any kind. Voting Now reads both rulebooks before it plans anything, and a clause that forbids outside promotion ends the job.
Contest platforms check votes as routine. Easypromos runs each vote through 11 security controls and does not count one that fails any of them, and Woobox says voting fraud is becoming more common as contests grow popular. Voting Now promotes to real people who choose for themselves, at the contest's own pace, and none of this is a method for getting past a check.
Under 16 CFR 465.8, buying fake indicators of social media influence for a commercial purpose can violate the FTC's rule, which is one reason Voting Now promotes to real people and does not bring in bought counts. The FTC's Endorsement Guides also require a paid creator to disclose the connection clearly. Whether outside promotion is lawful for a given contest is a question for a lawyer, and Voting Now takes no political or governmental votes.
No quote promises a win, a ranking or a vote count, because the organizer counts the votes and applies its own rules. The Santa Barbara Independent, for one, says it will disqualify a business that offers voters incentives of any kind. Nothing runs before the client approves a written quote.
